At KCC we are involved in our community in many ways.
We engage with those around us through the Kanata South Community Garden, Annual Spring Plant Sale, or the Autumn Corn Roast. We also support the Open Table Dinner hosted at the Kanata Baptist Church and have many volunteers at the Kanata Food Cupboard.
We are having a community kitchen fundraising garage sale on August 22. Put it in your calendar now. If you want to book a table for $20, let us know. Limited spots available.
Kanata Community Kitchen Project
At Kanata Community Church, we care deeply about food security in our community. We are raising funds to renovate our kitchen so that it meets municipal requirements for public use and can become a fully equipped community resource.
We know that food insecurity is a serious issue in Canada. Our church already has a community garden, and we want to take the next step: creating a community kitchen where food can become meals, learning, connection, and community.
Why a Community Kitchen?
Not everyone has access to a safe, accessible, and well-equipped kitchen. For some people, preparing food can be difficult due to housing circumstances, limited kitchen facilities, financial barriers, disability, or other challenges.
We recognize that no single organization can solve food insecurity on its own. A community kitchen can be one more tool in the community’s food-security network. Our hope is to work alongside the organizations already serving our community, adding another resource rather than duplicating the important work already happening.
Our Autumn Corn Roast is on September 11 from 5 to 7:30 pm. (Rain date of Sept 18) There are free hot dogs and corn on the cob. Bring your lawn chairs and relax to music while you enjoy hotdogs with all the trimmings and corn smothered in butter. Chat with your neighbours in our community and make new friends. Try your hand at games while your children are having their faces painted! Bring your bike and have our bike repair make necessary adjustments. For information, contact 613 831-7458 or office@kanatacommunity.com.
